Cllr Andy Morgan, Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton South East, today welcomed the Conservative Party’s commitment to end the disgrace of mixed sex wards.
Andy was attending the Conservative Party’s North West Conference at the Reebok Stadium Bolton, when he challenged speaker Mark Sessions MP (Shadow Health Minister) to give assurances that Conservatives would scrap mixed sex wards when we come to power.
Mr Sessions responded by saying that not only would the Conservatives scrap mixed sex wards they would also ensure that resources are made available to hospitals to allow them to do it. He stressed that in some areas like ICU, Emergency and Children Wards it was appropriate for mixed sex wards to continue but where it was inappropriate we would scrap them.
Commenting Andy said “I welcome my party’s comment to scrapping mixed wards; this is not just about dignity but its also about keeping patient’s safe and meeting the cultural needs of our diverse community”.
