Unemployment figures pass 2 million

Cllr Andy Morgan, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton South East, responding to the news that unemployment has reached 2.029 million said “This is one milestone that no one wanted to reach.  Labour seem to be oblivious to the unemployment crisis affecting this country.  The reality is people are being devastated by the effects of losing their job and are not being helped to find alternative employment as the government continues to close job centres.

“The Business Minister has denied job centres are being closed down despite the Government admitting on Monday that they are pressing ahead with more closures. At best they don’t know what’s going on. At worst they are trying to dupe the public.

“The Prime Ministers negligent and complacent attitude over the past decade means we have a huge skills gap in the economy.  It is worrying that on average there are 10 applicants for every vacancy and it is also extremely worrying that people don’t have the necessary skills to fill the current vacancies in the economy.  Labour needs to wake up and smell the roses, apologise for the chaos it is and has caused.  Words and hollow promises are no longer good enough, what we need is action and we need it now.”
