Andy visits Zakariyya Mosque

Cllr Andy Morgan, Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton South East, paid a flying visit to the Zakariyya Central Mosque, Derby Street, last night (10/03/09).

Andy commenting said “I would like to thank the Imam and members of the Mosque Committee for allowing me to visit the Mosque and for being so open and frank in their discussions.  The visit was a real eye opener and I hope this is first of many similar visits to the other Mosques with in Bolton South East Constituency.”

Continuing Andy said “The Labour Party has taken for granted for far to long the Muslim Communities vote and it is up to me and the Conservative Party to provide them with a real credible alternative which is what I intend to do in the run up to the General Election, whenever that is called.

Andy also commended the excellent project by the “Reach Organisation”, a group of younger members of the community, who are trying to encourage engagement between the Muslim youth, mainstream politicians and other decision makers.  A main part of their current work is to try to show to that the youth vote counts and why those eligible to vote should to prevent the expansion of extreme faction’s not only with in their own community but also far right organisations such as the BNP.

Andy commenting said “The work that the Reach Organisation is doing is ground breaking and I await with interest the roll out of the engagement programme to see if the methods and ideas used to encourage voting can be duplicated within other communities.”

“The main thing is we as politicians need to make politics relevant and to show that every vote matters.”
