Cllr Andy Morgan (Hulton Ward) today accused the Prime Minister of running scared after he ruled out an autumn election.
Gordon Brown ended speculation over an early election as fresh opinion polls indicated he would have lost his Commons majority.
Andy said "After weeks of hyping up the prospect of a November election, the Prime Minister has been forced into a humiliating climb-down, ducking David Cameron's challenge to hold an election now."
The latest data showed a serious Tory resurgence had left Labour trailing in many marginal seats.
Cllr Morgan added "Bolton South East Conservatives are prepared for an election and any delay will only strengthen our position. The likes of Labour Candidate for Bolton South East, Yasmin Quershi, must be a very relieved today that an election has not been called".
