Green Belt protection must remain!

Commenting on the Social Market Foundation report calling for around two million homes to be built on greenfield or Green Belt land, Hulton Councillor Alan Walsh said:

 

"The Green Belt has served England and Bolton well for the last half century – protecting against urban sprawl and unsustainable development.  Yet I fear the Green Belt now faces a sustained assault from Labour's army of bulldozers and concrete mixers – with local communities like Bolton, Westhoughton, Horwich and Blackrod powerless to resist Whitehall’s Soviet-style targets.

 

"I agree we need to build more homes and regenerate rundown communities – yet Green Belt protection must remain. The Green Belt defines and protects urban communities from sprawl.”
