Gordon Brown's Deception Continues

Official Treasury documents, produced the day before the Budget in April 2009 and never released to the public, have revealed Labour plans to cut spending on public services by 9.3% in real terms over the period 2010-2014.

These plans to cut spending on public services and capital projects were not published in the Budget Red Book, and were not mentioned in the Chancellor’s Budget speech.

It is now clear that Gordon Brown continued to insist that Labour will increase spending on public services in the years ahead – even after his Government had drawn up secret plans to impose significant cuts in spending on public services and capital investment.

Speaking at his regularly monthly press conference, David Cameron said that the Prime Minister must not be allowed to "rewrite history" by claiming that he never tried to portray the economic choice facing Britain as being between Labour investment and Conservative cuts.

Pointing to a dossier of public statements made by Mr. Brown, David accused Gordon Brown of "taking people for fools" by repeatedly making these claims while trying to cover up Labour’s own plan for cuts, and he added:

"All those words have turned to dust and – as I consistently warned week after week – reality has caught up with him."
