The Government has just announced its latest gimmick, a Defence Review. Cllr Andy Morgan, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton South East and Ex Soldier who served with the Army Air Corps said “This review should have been initiated at least two years ago, as the Conservatives have been demanding. This announcement represents the last gasp of a dying Government under a Prime Minister who has never given the Armed Forces the priority they deserve.”
“We nevertheless welcome it as long overdue, as long as the work will serve to inform the full Strategic Defence Review which a Conservative Government is committed to undertaking.”
“It also stinks that this is yet another review whose finding will not be available until after the General Election. If the Government were really supportive of our Armed Forces they would carry out the review and announce its findings sooner rather than later irrespective of when and if a General Election is called.”
