Hulton Ward: Deane Church Lane Traffic Calming

At last nights Council Meeting (28/02/07) Labour & Lib Dem Councillors over-turned a motion by your Hulton Ward Councillors to re-consider the proposed Traffic Calming Scheme for Deane Church Lane.

Cllr Phil Ashcroft said “We are not against some sort of scheme to slow the traffic down.  We are concerned that any scheme which includes speed bumps will result in traffic rat running across from Deane Church Lane to Hulton Lane.  We are already experiencing increased rat running across Sutton Estate via Chip Hill Road because of the new traffic signals on Hulton Lane,  what we were trying to do was to get the whole area looked at together rather than the piece meal approach which seems to be happening at the moment.”

Cllr Andy Morgan added "Labour and Lib Dem Councillors, who do not represent Hulton Ward and who are not aware of the issues facing the ward, voted together to force the scheme through.  This is a perfect example of Labour and Lib Dems Councillors taking decisions about issues they know nothing about.  We will continue to work with officers to come up with a scheme that hopefully will meet the needs of residents living in the whole area.”

Cllr Alan Walsh, who moved the motion commented "This scheme is ill thought out and opposed by the Emergency Services and many residents.  We will do all we can to influence this scheme so it will benefit local residents rather than the Labour and Lib Dems anti-motorist policys."
